Q&A with Whitney Hodnett
Skincare secret: I almost never skip my at-home skincare routine. I always keep up with exfoliation and masking at home, it is “circle of life” skin care. You have to cleanse and moisturize every morning and evening, those are the basics that you cannot get lazy about. Some mornings I miss a serum (it happens). But cleanse, exfoliate, mask, moisturize: these are the key basics to good skin health. You can’t overdo it, but you can under do it. There’s a balance. Once you get in the routine it becomes second nature and a wonderful self-care ritual.
Favorite beauty superfood: Pineapple!
Favorite product: Lytera 2.0 is a remarkable melanin inhibitor and always my go-to for pigment issues.
Biggest beauty myth: There are SO MANY! An example? St. Ives Apricot Scrub is a good exfoliant. Please throw it out or use it on your elbows and your knees only. It is actually crushed walnut seeds and can cause micro-tears in the skin, inviting bacteria. Chemical exfoliants are best, I love lactic acid. But if you love the feeling of a scrub the Micro Scrub from SkinCeuticals is medical grade and finely milled small enough and will remove dead skin without being harsh.
Beauty idol: Jennifer Lopez and Beyonce! They are both strong, passionate women who carry themselves with such elegance and grace but are not afraid to be real, or vulnerable, or silly. They show themselves without makeup or looking less than perfect, but you know that they can inspire the most fierce beauty moment!
Five products you can’t travel without?: Mascara and eyelash curler (that’s one product in my book!), SkinCeuticals MetaCell Renewal moisturizer, BROW products, YSL Lip Balm, and Revision D.E.J eye cream.
Finally, what is beauty to you? Confidence, charisma, and character.
Thank you so much, Whitney!
